Dickson’s Banh Mi
Banh mi is one of those things that generally offers great taste to price ratio. Despite my love of Dickon’s their $12 banh mi isn’t worth it. Don’t get me wrong it was good, but not that good. I know they use fresh, high quality meats but when you only have a smattering of ground pork it’s not enough to warrant the 100% markup. Especially when they offer a more meat heavy option for less.
If you’re a semi-regular at Dickson’s and love banh mi I’d give it a try otherwise stick with their other offerings.
Quick Verdict: Banh Mi: Good, not great (2), Dickson’s: I’ll be back (4)

Yamato - Modern Asian Cuisine
Opening a few months back, Yamato is a modern yet cozy restaurant featuring a mix of sushi/sashimi, dim sum and traditional Japanese meals. The staff were super friendly, the prices were good and the portions were plentiful almost too plentiful. The cuts of sashimi were nearly twice as big as expected. This would be a good thing except in cuts that big the texture changes and all delicacy is lost. At least in my book sushi should be more delicate and leaving you wanting more after each bight rather then a multi-mouthful gorge fest. The pork bun was just a bit over cooked turning it from doughy to bready. Overall, the food was good but not up to the visions I had while going through their menu. Still, I’d go back to give them another try as nothing was bad, just not quite hitting the mark. Who knows we old have been there on an off night.
Quick Verdict: Good, not great (2)
